About Me
In 2017 my husband told me that, due to work, we needed to uproot our family and move from the bustle of London, to a small Swiss town on the banks of Lake Zurich. It wasn't a complete journey into the unknown, we'd met and lived in both Luzern and Zurich before. But doing it with 3 small kids in tow...this was a whole different ball game.
Leaving family, friends and schools that they loved was heart wrenching for us all, but at the same time we, as parents, relished the opportunity to open our kids eyes up to other cultures, languages and places.
There's so many things and people I miss from the UK - John Lewis, M&S meal deals, proper cups of tea and no-one eyeballing you if you're hungover on the school run or tutting when your toddler kicks off on the bus. Plus that innate sense of humour that my Mum friends have gets totally lost in translation - bitching about your kids/husband/life over Prosecco is quite an English thing, as is that dry sarcasm we Brits do so well!
But we longed for life to slow down and to enjoy the pace that Switzerland offered. Having a third child seemed to accelerate things out of control and in the blink of an eye my eldest kid was nearing adolescence. With Sunday closing, half days on Wednesdays, short commutes and a more outdoorsy innocence to childhood, prevailing we hoped the decision would pay off!
